Importing and Exporting XML and SGML
2-day course
Importing and Exporting XML and SGML discusses the
relationship between FrameMaker and the markup languages, XML and
SGML. Students learn to define structure applications that allow end
users to open XML or SGML documents as formatted structured
FrameMaker structured documents and to save structured documents back
as SGML. Students also learn automatic creation of a FrameMaker+SGML
Element Definition Document (EDD) from an SGML DTD and a DTD from an
EDD. The course describes the default translation FrameMaker+SGML
employs in the absence of any customization as well as using
read/write rules to specify variations from this default.
Prerequisites:
Topics include:
- The correspondence between FrameMaker+SGML constructs and SGML constructs
- Converting SGML DTDs to FrameMaker+SGML EDDs and the reverse
- Converting document instances to structured documents and the reverse
- Creating FrameMaker+SGML applications and working with SGML
application files
- Creating read/write rules
- Understanding the default translation for elements, attributes,
entities, graphics, cross references and other special objects
- Mapping SGML elements to Frame objects such as tables, graphics,
equations and cross-references
- Renaming elements and their attributes or attribute values
- Dropping SGML elements or their content or attributes on import to FrameMaker+SGML
- Dropping FrameMaker+SGML elements or their content or attributes on export to SGML
- Importing and exporting FrameMaker+SGML books
